[VIDEO] A World Class Stadium To Be Built As Ghana Plans To Host 2038 FIFA World Cup

Plans are underway for Ghana to improve its sporting infrastructure in a bid to stand as possible candidates to host the 2038 FIFA World Cup.

A 40-year national development plan, put forward by the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC), includes plans to have Ghana host football’s biggest international showpiece in the next 21 years.

Discussing the content of the long-term national development plan, the Director-General of the NDPC, Dr Nii Moi Thompson, said Ghana is capable to hosting the global tournament, but was quick to add those deficits in the country’s infrastructure and finance must first be taken care of. Speaking on Metro TV’s Good Evening Ghana show on Tuesday, Dr Thompson said the nation also has plans to bid for the hosting rights of the quadrennial Olympic Games if everything goes according to plan.

The plan also houses an initiative to build a new national stadium called the “Black Stars stadium”, which is expected to be connected by roads and railway networks, as well as some of the best modern technologies. The 40-year national development plan was first launched under the erstwhile John Mahama government to help shape the county’s future.

However, the NDPC presented the proposals in the plan to president Akufo-Addo earlier in September this year. Upon receiving the long-term national development plan, the president expressed confidence that it could be achieved, saying “we must, therefore, make rapid progress, and do things to ensure that we achieve it”. According to him, “we must not and cannot fail in taking up this journey.

We need to seek out those who are not yet convinced and bring them on board; and we need to have people to champion the different aspects of the plan, in particular the key milestones. ”We must figure out how we sustain the interest of key constituents, especially the youth, who will be at the helm of affairs in the not too distant future.”
