We criticize Akufo-Addo because we’re truly concerned about Ghana – Sammy Gyamfi
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) led by Sammy Gyamfi has allayed suggestions that they are being overly unbearable in the discourse regarding Ghana’s coronavirus case count and finding viable solutions to containing the spread.
According to the National Communications Officer of the NDC, Sammy Gyamfi the inclination that they are politicizing issues relating to the fight against the coronavirus must be ousted; and an attempt to suppress their efforts.
He said though their criticisms over the past weeks have been fierce, they are aimed at putting the government on its toes in order to avert the repetition of mistakes as Ghanaians have seen in the past.
In an attempt to clear the misconceptions surrounding their acts, the executive member of the opposition party said, “Sometimes people say I talk too much or the NDC likes to rant about government’s coronavirus measures but it’s for the greater good, not because we just want to rant. We don’t want the government to repeat mistakes some countries like the UK, US, Italy, and Spain made. Most of these countries are on their knees because they underestimated the disease. So we’re only drawing government’s attention to these…”
Sammy Gyamfi further claimed that his party together with a section of the Ghanaian populace do not see any form of willingness from the Akufo-Addo-led government in learning from his mistakes.
While giving a chronology of events leading to the outbreak of the disease and its subsequent effects on the people, he emphasized that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo erred at the initial stages by touring Europe and leaving the border open at a time some part of the world was preparing to take a hit.
In spite of that, he believes the president has not learned lessons from his counterparts thus his decision to lift the restrictions on movements at a very premature stage in the fight against the coronavirus.
While speaking in an interview on Peace FM, he assured Ghanaians that he, together with his party and like-minded Ghanaians will continue to scrutinize the Akufo-Addo government to tow the path of nations like Taiwan.
Ghana’s case count currently stands at 1,154 with 120 recoveries. Total samples tested so far are 68,591 with 1.52 % testing positive. Regions that have reported cases include; the Greater Accra, Ashanti, Eastern, Northern, Volta, Upper East, Upper West, Central, Western and North-East regions.
