Road Ministry directs all toll booths in the country to shut down starting today 18th November 2021.

A press release from the Ministry of Roads and Highways and signed by the sector minister Hon. Kwasi Amoako-Attah sighted by Accramail.com confirms that all toll booths in the country are to stop collecting road tolls starting today 18th November 2021.

This is in accordance with the abolishment of the roll toll collections nationwide as announced in the 2022 budget presented in the parliament on the 17th November 2021 by the Minister for Finance Hon. Ken Ofori-Attah.

In his speech Mr. Ofori-Attah said; “Tolling points have become unhealthy market centres, led to heavy traffic on our roads, lengthened travel time and impacted negatively on productivity. The congestion also leads to pollution in and around those vicinities. To address these challenges, government has abolished all tolls on public roads and bridges. The toll collection personnel will be reassigned. The expected impact on productivity and reduced environmental  pollution will more than offset the revenue forgone by removing the tolls.”

Part of the Press release from the Ministry of Roads and Highways reads; “Following the presentation of the 2022 budget by the Ho. Minister of Finance on behalf of His Excellency the President of the Republic of Ghana on Wednesday, November 17, 2021, the Ministry Of Roads and Highways hereby directs the cessation of the connection of road and bridge tolls at all locations nationwide. This directive takes effect from 12 am on Thursday, November  2021.”
