I was tasked by Rawlings to kill Hilla Limann, but I ran away from Ghana – Adomako Nyamekye

Ex-army officer and Highlife legend, Nana Adomako Nyamekye, has revealed that he was initially contracted by some architects of the 31st December 1981 Revolution to gun down President Dr. Hilla Limann and vice president Joseph W.S. de-Graft Johnson hours before the coup.

Adomako Nyamakye, composer of the ever-popular hit tack, “Adwoa Penaman”, fled the country following attempts on his life after the Coup, which brought Flt Lt (rtd) Jerry John Rawlings into the office for the second time after the 1979 June 4 Uprising.

Chairman Rawlings became a leader of the Provisional National Defense Council (PNDC), which ruled for almost 11 years and handed over power to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) led by the same man in 1992.

Adomako Nyamekye, who said he was privy to preparations towards the so-called Revolution, made the startling revelation in a recent interview with “The Hour Show” on ANDY D TV.

Nana Adomako Nyamekye was the lead singer of the Black Bearers Band which belonged to the Recce Regiment of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) at the time.

According to him, “all the boys who were used by Rawlings to stage the Coup were my platoon mates so I knew much about the coup.”
