Rat torture: A Terrifying Method of Execution in History You Should Know

The world has observed different methods of executing people who commit certain crimes. Some of these methods are still in force in some countries while others have been discontinued. There were several forms of torture that people meted on others in the past centuries and most of them have been stopped or modified.

Rat torture

This was introduced in the 17th Century by the Ancient Romans. A bucket containing starved rats was tied to the victim’s belly. The bucket was then heated, making the inside extremely hot.

The panicked animal could escape only by digging through the soft belly tissues of the victim. Desperate to escape the heat, the rat begins to burrow through the only soft surface it can find, thus the victim’s flesh.

With sharp claws and teeth, the rat quickly gnawed its way into the victim’s bowels, causing excruciating pain and terror, and eventually death.
