Police disband robbery syndicate in Kajelo in the Paga district

[dropcap]E[/dropcap]fforts of Police Officers from the Paga District Command of the Ghana Police Service in the Kasena/Nankana West District of the Upper East Region have led to the disbandment of a robbery syndicate terrorizing residents in Kajelo and other surrounding villages.

In the night hours of 8:pm, Tuesday, Police officers stationed at a barrier in the Kajelo community mounted a chase on three members of the syndicate on motorbikes after police suspected their movement near a forest where their activities are rife.

According to the assemblyman of the Kajelo Electoral Area, Honorable Hilary Aniakwo, who confirmed the incident to Atinka News, the suspected armed robbers were heading for their operation grounds to lay ambush and strike on unsuspecting travelers and community members that day.

He added that, the robbers upon seeing a police officer on duty at a recently created barrier along the Kajelo /Pindaa road, turned their motorbikes hurriedly and got away arousing suspicion.

Police officers however pursed them and later retrieved two motorbikes belonging to the armed robbers after they abandoned them and dived into a dam to escape Police arrest.

In a most recent incident last month, a nurse and his friend were attacked on their return journey to post at the Kayoro health centre in broad daylight, resulting in his death from wounds he sustained from the gunshots.

The death of the nurse coupled the frequent attacks have since sparked fear and panic among residents of the community and other rural workers especially, nurses and teachers who serve in far way villages in the district over concerns of safety with many threatening to abandon their posts.

The Police in response to calls by community have not relented in their efforts over the past few months to unravel persons behind the inhumane activities of these armed robbers that have led to the killing of a nurse and leaving several others with machete inflicted wounds.

The Police have intensified movements in the area and have vowed to crack down on all criminal activities of the robbery syndicate terrorizing road users in the area. A community watchdog committees has also been set up with the help of the Police Service.
