Parliament Approves Akufo-Addo’s Ministerial Nominees Amid Minority Opposition

Accra, Ghana – Parliament has officially approved President Akufo-Addo’s ministerial nominees despite strong opposition from the Minority. Minority Leader Cassiel Ato Forson voiced their concerns, stating, “Mr. Speaker, the Minority does not support the nominations of these ministers due to the ongoing issues the country faces, including the economic crisis, food insecurity, ‘dumsor’ (power outages), and reckless borrowing.”

On Wednesday, 14 February, President Akufo-Addo reshuffled his cabinet, appointing new ministers to key positions. Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye was named the Minister of Health, Lydia Seyram Alhassan the Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, and Dakoa Newman as the Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection.

Other appointments include Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah as Minister for Local Government, Decentralisation, and Rural Development, Andrew Egyapa Mercer as Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Titus Glover as Greater Accra Region Minister, and Daniel Machator as Oti Region Minister.

Deputy ministerial positions were also filled, with Sylvester Tetteh as Deputy Minister for Information, Vincent Ekow Assafuah for Local Government, Decentralisation, and Rural Development, and Charles Acheampong for Communications and Digitalisation. The Health Ministry will have Adelaide Ntim and Alexander Akwasi Acquah as deputy ministers, while Dr. Prince Hamidu Armah will serve as Deputy Minister for Works and Housing.
