NEW REGISTER: Even the feared Red Beret rebel leader has registered – Gabby teases Bernard Mornah

Even the feared Red Beret rebel leader has registered – Gabby teases Bernard Mornah

Even the feared Red Beret rebel leader has registered: A hugely influential member of the governing New Patriotic Party(NPP) Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko has noted that a lot of progress is being made with respect to the mass voter registration exercise since persons who were initially opposed to the exercise are now taking part.

Mr. Asare Otchere-Darko made the comment in reaction to pictures of Mr. Bernard Mornah showing him at a registration center registering for the new voter identity card spotting his red beret.

“We must be making a lot of progress with voter registration when you see men of the feared Red Beret Brigade lining up to register. #RebelsRegister” he wrote.

Mr. Mornah, who is National Chairman of the People’s National Convention (PNC) served as a spokesperson for the Inter-Party Resistance against the New Voter Register (IPRAN), a group that opposed the compilation of a new voter’s register and threatening to disrupt the mass registration exercise if the Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) proceeded with its plan to compile a new voters’ register.

IPRAN held press conferences and a series of demonstrations in opposition to the compilation of a new voter’s register.

Their efforts fell flat as the Supreme Court ruled that the EC could go ahead with the exercise. Leading members of the group have been left with no choice than to partake in the exercise.

The governing NPP was a staunch supporter of the EC plan and have been enthusiastic that the exercise is ongoing.
