Lockdown: Residents clash with Police at Kasoa

Passengers in vehicles who got to the Kasoa Tollbooth after the 14-day restriction on movements in parts of the Greater Accra Region and Kumasi commenced were not allowed to cross the toll booth.

A motorist who pleaded with the security personnel to allow him to park his car and walk through the barrier to pick a bus had his plea turned down.

Another person who was stuck at the Kasoa Toll both told Atinka News that he knew of the locked-down order and so he tried to do overtime at work.

According to him, it was just unfortunate that he could not beat the 1 am deadline as instructed by the President of the Republic of Ghana.

“I am coming from Kumasi and I’m going home, we are citizens and we should be allowed to pass. This is pure abuse of human rights. Did the President say people should not be allowed to pass? This is not right!”  another passenger charged.

President Akufo-Addo ordered the lockdown of Accra and Kumasi for two weeks as part of the government’s efforts to mitigate the spread of coronavirus in Ghana.

The lockdown will also affect the Senya Breku municipality in the Central region.

The lockdown commenced today Monday, March 30, 2020 dawn with essential workers exempted from the temporary measures announced by the President.

Ghana’s COVID-19 cases are currently at 152 with four deaths, and two recoveries according to the Ghana Health Service website.
