Kidnappers of Canadian women demanded $850k ransom

The ring leader of the 8-member kidnapping gang has confessed that they indeed demanded for $850,000 ransom for the release of the two kidnapped Canadian women.

It is emerging that the suspects while keeping their victims hostage, managed to establish contacts with their parents and demanded $850,000 but they pleaded to offer $47,000.

The suspects did not however get the opportunity for further negotiations of their booty as a combined team of police and national security operatives closed up on them on Wednesday June 12, 2019 leading to their arrest.

Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah last Wednesday confirmed no monies exchanged hands between National Security operatives and kidnappers of the two Canadian nationals in Kumasi.

“No ransom was paid, no ransom was discussed in this matter. Our security agencies showed earlier intelligence report, did their work and then got to the conclusion of this matter. No ransom was paid between our security agencies and these persons.”

Canadians, Lauren Tilley and Bailey Chitty, 19 and 20 years respectively who were kidnapped over a week ago in Kumasi .

The victims are said to be volunteers with the group Youth Challenge International, a Canadian international development organisation with its headquarters in Toronto.

The group works in 16 countries across South America, Africa, and Asia, working to support development projects for young people in areas such as health, education and employment.

Lauren Tilley and Bailey Chitty were therefore assigned to Kumasi but were kidnapped at Ahodwo, Kumasi Royal Golf Club, at 8.25pm on 4 June 2019.
