Justice Anin Yeboah retires as Chief Justice on May 24

His Lordship Justice Kwasi Anin-Yeboah, the 14th Chief Justice of the Republic of Ghana, is scheduled to retire on May 24, 2023, upon reaching the age of 70.

He assumed the role of Chief Justice in December 2019, succeeding Justice Sophia A.B. Akuffo, who served in the position for two and a half years until her retirement on December 20, 2019.

Justice Anin Yeboah has an extensive legal background, having written judgments in constitutional, civil, and criminal cases and provided legal opinions on various issues in Ghana. He was born in 1953 in Toase, Ashanti Region, and attended Amaniampong Secondary School and Apam Secondary School before obtaining his university degree and Ghana Law School qualification in 1981.

The Chief Justice’s reputation as a legal expert extends beyond Ghana’s borders, particularly in the realm of football. He was appointed to FIFA’s Ethics Committee and later became the Chairman of the Disciplinary Committee at the FIFA Congress, becoming the first person to hold this position following FIFA’s reforms.

At the national level, he served as the Chairman of the Disciplinary Committee of the Eastern Region Football Association and sat on both the Disciplinary and Appeals Committees of the Ghana Football Association. Anin Yeboah was also named as a member of the CAF/FIFA Reform Implementation Taskforce for African football in 2019.

He was appointed as a Judge of the Supreme Court of Ghana by President John Kufuor in June 2008.
