I still stand by my violent comment – Bernard Mornah brags after release from CID

I still stand by my violent comment: National chairman of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Bernard Mornah says he remains undaunted in his comment which earned him an invitation from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service on suspicion of “threat” and a “breach of public peace”, MyNewsGh.com reports.

Mr. Mornah reported to Police CID’s headquarters in Accra on Monday [June 2] after the Department issued an invitation to him over some pronouncements he allegedly made against the Electoral Commission (EC) which was deemed to be a threat.

National chairman of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Bernard Mornah says he remains undaunted in his comment which earned him an invitation from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service on suspicion of “threat” and a “breach of public peace”, MyNewsGh.com reports.

Mr. Mornah reported to Police CID’s headquarters in Accra on Monday [June 2] after the Department issued an invitation to him over some pronouncements he allegedly made against the Electoral Commission (EC) which was deemed to be a threat.

He is said to have strongly cautioned the EC at a press conference of a potential outbreak of political violence at registration centers.

According to Bernard Mornah, the violence will be a result of the exclusion of the existing voters’ ID cards from the list of identification requirements for the new voter registration exercise the EC intends to undertake.

In the letter, signed by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, (DCOP) Barima Tweneboah Sasraku II, Mr. Mornah had allegedly vowed to resist every attempt by the EC to compile a new voters’ register.

But in response after his release from the CID headquarters around 2:00 pm [Monday, June 2], Mr. Monarch told the press that he still stands by his comments that occasioned his arrest and will repeat it on any other day to caution the EC on the dangers ahead if it continues with its planned activities.

He indicated that the Electoral Commission is treading on a dangerous path with its intention to go ahead with the new Voters’ register compilation and it remains unthinkable that they are bent to disenfranchise Ghanaians on the basis of not having a passport or Ghana Card.

“We are Ghanaians before the Ghana Card or the ECOWAS Card. It remains unthinkable for the Electoral Commission to enter into a particular community and declare Chiefs, Community leaders as not Ghanaians on the basis of them not having a Ghana Card or Passport.

It will not happen. All those desiring for change must wake up to the reality that the Electoral Commission is plunging the Country into a calamity and the Police equally will feel the effect of their (EC’s) actions if they allow them to proceed with the registration.”

“They said my comments were conducive for the breach of peace and I told them my comments were conducive for the promotion of peace.”

He revealed further that he has been directed to report to the nearest police close to him every two weeks wherever he finds himself within the Country.

Mr. Benard Mornah was accompanied by members of the Inter-Party Resistance against the New Voters Register (IPRAN).

The group was cladded in red and black attire and made their way to the police headquarters from the Ako Adjei Park at Osu where they had massed up. They displayed placards and chanted ‘all die be die’ as they accompanied the PNC Chairman.
