Solomon Owusu, a former member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has expressed his elation at leaving the ruling party to join Alan Kyeremanten’s Movement For Change. Describing his departure as a significant milestone in his political journey, Owusu shared that the day he officially severed ties with the NPP marked one of the happiest moments of his life.
In an interview with Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah on the Angel Morning Show (AMS) on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, Owusu, who serves as a Communications Team member of the Movement For Change, reminisced about the day of his departure. He recalled the precise moment, stating, “I left long ago on September 25, 2023, at 2:30 pm. I remember it vividly because, apart from the day I was born, there has not been a single day that I have been as happy as the day I left the NPP party.”
For Owusu, leaving the NPP felt akin to breaking free from the shackles of slavery, as he expressed a sense of liberation and enlightenment since joining the Movement For Change. He reflected on the realization that loyalty to a political party should not supersede one’s pursuit of personal growth and enlightenment.
“It’s like realizing it’s time to break free from the slavery you’ve been subjected to. Sometimes, you’re in a party just to appease your parents who brought you up in it, but they were the same people who sent you to school to gain knowledge and see the light. So, in September, I decided to part ways with the party. It’s the Nana Addo People’s Party and not the New Patriotic Party, so I have left the party. Since I left the party, I have found happiness,” Owusu elaborated.
Proudly embracing his decision to align with the Movement For Change, Owusu emphasized his contentment in being a member of a movement that resonates with his values and aspirations. His transition signifies a broader trend of political realignment and reflects the evolving landscape of Ghanaian politics as individuals seek platforms that align more closely with their principles and visions for the future.
