Go to GETfund for your retraction and apology not me – Domelevo directs aggrieved Deputy Minister

Auditor General Daniel Yaw Domelevo has dismissed a demand for a retraction and an apology from his office which was made by Deputy Agric Minister Kennedy Osei Nyarko over the listing of his name among top government officials who benefited from a Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETfund) Scholarship.

A performance audit report from the Auditor-General listed Mr. Nyarko as a scholarship beneficiary of the scheme.

Mr. Nyarko forcefully denied benefitting from the said scholarship and threatened to sue the Auditor-General, if he fails to retract his name from the list of beneficiaries of the GETFund scholarship and apologise for same.

In a letter to the Auditor-General through his lawyers, the Deputy Agric Minister demanded a retraction and an apology as the first step towards legal action against the Auditor General.

However, Mr. Daniel Yaw Domelevo shot down the demand in a reply to the official demand.

“Please be informed that my office did not cause to be published “supposed list of top political figures” who are claimed to have benefited from a scholarship at the Ghana Education Trust Fund as alleged by you,” the AG wrote in his response sighted below;

Mr. Domelevo explained that the audit was conducted at the behest of the GETfund Secretariat adding that “It should be noted that the information contained in an audit report is from an audited entity and in this instance, every information or names that are contained in the performance audit report on GETFund came from GETFund, the audited entity.”

He, therefore, directed the Deputy Agric Minister through his lawyers to channel their demand to GETfund insisting the office of the Auditor-General has no malice in the matter.

“Your grievance, therefore, is best addressed by GETFund who provided the audit team with the necessary information and names of beneficiaries during the audit,” Mr. Domelevo added.
