Ghana’s 100-bed Infectious Diseases Isolation and Treatment Centre, 50% complete

The 100-bed Infectious Diseases Isolation and Treatment Facility funded by the Ghana COVID-19 Private Sector Fund has reached a significant stage as it’s nearing completion.

In an interview monitored by ABC News, Project Manager, Kofi Essel Appiah said they are halfway through the construction of the health facility which started three weeks ago, stating that 50 percent of the project has been completed.

According to him, contractors are speeding to complete the facility within the six-week frame they promised to treat COVID-19 patients there.

He indicated that “Right in the middle of our project and then looking forward to the last stretch. Work is going on feverishly on different levels, finishes are just about starting and other areas. We’ve done a little over the 3-week period and we are driving into the last half of what we have ahead of us. We’re about halfway through the project. All the foundations are finished, walls are up, and are being treated at different levels.”

The project, located at the Ga East Municipal Hospital, will be the country’s first centre for the treatment of all kinds of infectious diseases.

Meanwhile, the COVID-19 Private Sector Fund hopes to construct similar facilities in other parts of the country, which will be used for the treatment of COVID-19 and other infectious diseases.
