Ghana Police working under very challenging circumstances – John Mahama

Former President John Dramani Mahama has observed that personnel of the Ghana Police Service are working under very challenging circumstances.

In a Facebook post consoling with the families of the two policemen who were gruesomely murdered on Thursday, August 28, 2019, he commended the Ghana Police for doing their best despite the teething challenges in the line of their duties.

He, therefore, condemned the increasing spate of violence against officials of the law enforcement agency in the country considering the fact a number of them have been killed in a similar fashion within the past month.

“Sad to learn, yet again, of the gruesome killing of two policemen in Kasoa. Our law enforcement officers are doing their best under very challenging circumstances to protect life and property. I, therefore, condemn the increasing spate of violence against them.

May their families be consoled and may the perpetrators be brought to justice sooner than later. We must put in place stringent measures to help protect our men in uniform”. Mahama Tweeted.

Sergeant Michael Gyamasi and Lance Corporal Awal Mohammed with the Motor Transport and Traffic Directorate (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service were on Thursday afternoon killed in broad daylight by armed robbers at Gomoa Buduburam in the Central Region.

The two officers on duty stopped an unregistered vehicle for a routine check but the occupants sped off.  Sergeant Gyamasi who was the service driver and Lance Corporal Mohammed Awal chased them with the service Vehicle GP 363.

Few meters away the driver of the Camry stopped and the two policemen accosted the occupants of the vehicle but in an attempt to arrest them, one of them shrugged the police off, went and picked a pistol from the car and shot the two officers.

The sergeant ran to take cover in a provision store nearby but his assailant followed up there and shot him three times in the head killing him instantly.

The Lance Corporal who was also shot twice died on his way to the hospital while suspects bolted but abandoned the vehicle at Kokrobite.

A search in the vehicle revealed a registered document of rugger pistol, number 343-61265 bearing the name of Eric Kojo Duah. Six 9mm spent shells were found at the scene.
