Former BoG Governor ignored my calls to probe Menzgold in 2015 – Kofi Akpaloo

The Founder and Leader of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Kofi Akpaloo, has asked the government to indict former Governor of Ghana’s Central Bank, Dr. Abdul-Nashiru Issahaku over the Menzgold crises.

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in 2018 asked Menzgold to stop gold trading operations with the public.

According to the SEC, Menzgold had been dealing in the purchase and deposit of gold collectables from the public and issuing contracts with guaranteed returns with clients, without a valid license from the Commission.

An Accra Circuit Court yesterday, Wednesday 9th January, 2019 issued a warrant for the arrest of embattled businessman Nana Appiah Mensah after his investment company, Menzgold, failed to refund client’s monies.

NAM-1, as he is popularly called, is wanted for defrauding by false pretense. He is also wanted for money laundering.

The flagbearer for Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Kofi Akpaloo speaking to Ekourba Gyasi on Atinka AM Drive on Monday stated that he personally sent images of the Menzgold buildings in East Legon to the former BoG governor alleging the emergence of suspicion of another Ponzi scheme in 2015.

He noted that former BoG governor, Dr. Abdul-Nashiru Issahaku, ignored his messages although he followed up with official letters as well as calls to the governor himself.

“I think if there is anyone to be punished for the Menzgold crises, the first person should be former governor for Ghana’s Central Bank, Dr. Abdul-Nashiru Issahaku. He never responded to my calls and there was nothing I could do at that time.

Dr. Abdul-Nashiru Issahaku replaced Dr. Kofi Wampah Governor of the Bank of Ghana on April 04, 2016.
