But for arm-twisting, we would have won a clear majority in parliament – John Mahama

The former president and the 2020 presidential candidate for the opposition party National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has said the NPP and their allies bullied NDC a lot in the 2020 general elections and that his party have learned their lessons after losing the election.

John Mahama said this in Bolgatanga to the party executives and supporters during his thank you tour in the Upper-East Region. He assured them that the party will party in place measures to curb these things in the pending 2024 general elections and even avoid going to the supreme for redress.

“That lesson has been painfully learnt and shall not be forgotten. Elections are won or lost at the polling station and collation levels and doing everything right, not at the Supreme Court,” Mahama said.

Mr. John Mahama also said the NDC increased its votes from roughly four million to over six million votes in the presidential election, adding that, “But for arm-twisting, we would have had 145 seats, and won a clear majority in Parliament.”

He also hailed the people of the Upper East for their contribution to the NDC’s effort by giving the party 14 out of the 15 seats in the parliamentary elections.

“We have learnt from our mistakes,” he said, and promised: “Next time we’ll score 15 over 15 in this region.”
