Bawumia’s Economic Lecture was just unnecessary – Kwame Jantuah claims
Bawumia’s Economic Lecture: A private legal practitioner Kwame Jantuah has chastised Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for not coming out to speak on the economic hardship situation of the country at the initial times when things started getting tough for the citizens.
He has therefore described the Veep’s last Economic Lecture as simply unnecessary considering the timing.
Speaking on Asaase Radion’s The Forum political talk show last Saturday 9 April 2022, Mr. Jantuah said the Vice President’s long silence at the beginning of Ghana’s economic challenges did not help matters because the country needed his views and direction considering his position as the head of the economic management team.
“When we come to this studio, we’ll continue to push him [Dr. Bawumia] to talk, if he doesn’t, we have to. He is the Vice-President, when the President is away who’s next? So, he’s done a lecture, I don’t think the lecture was necessary because he could have done it way before; in terms of adding his voice to the arguments that went on and the discussions.
“Even when the President was interviewed by the BBC, he could’ve added to it, couldn’t he? Right now, the NPP need to build confidence in the people and how they talk and how they act will determine that confidence in the people,” Jantuah said.
Mr. Jantuah also expressed disappointment in the Veep regarding his total silence on the e-levy.
“We wanted him to talk about the E-Levy, we didn’t hear anything about the E-Levy, nothing, he didn’t say anything about the E-Levy. Perhaps he’s taken it that everybody has talked about the E-Levy so it’s not necessary for him to talk about it. But Ghanaians expected him to talk about the E-Levy, but he didn’t.
“So, maybe going forward, now that he’s [Dr. Bawumia] broken his silence we would hear more of him. Moving forward, he’s not going back to the closet and not going to keep quiet. He should continue talking,” he said.
