Akufo-Addo under self-isolation after getting exposed to COVID-19

Akufo-Addo under self-isolation: President Nana Akufo-Addo will self-isolate for 14 days on the advice of doctors after a person in his close circle tested positive for coronavirus, the government said in a statement late on Saturday.

“He has, as at today, tested negative, but has elected to take this measure out of the abundance of caution,” the statement said, adding that the president will continue to work during the period, in compliance with COVID-19 safety protocols.

A number of government appointees and members of the president’s New Patriotic Party (NPP) have so far tested positive for COVID-19.

The health minister, Kwaku Manu, who was leading the COVID-19 effort and is noted for urging the Ghanaians to learn to live with the disease because it has come to stay, tested positive in June.

Early last week too Lawyer Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie also known as Sir John lost his life to this same COVID-19.

Until his death, Sir John was the CEO of the Forestry Commission.

He was appointed as the CEO of the Forestry Commission in March 2017 by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Eugene Arhin, the Communication Director for the President, shared a tribute some few minutes after the sad news of the passing of Mr. Kwadwo Afriyie Owusu was announced.

“RIP Sir John…Till we meet again,” he wrote on Facebook.

Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko also wrote on his Facebook timeline, “Only this afternoon I called to wish him a speedy recovery… This is truly shattering! Tough to swallow… Sleep easy, Sir John.”
